Hi! We are Jill Brock and Elizabeth Wetzel. We are first grade teachers at St. John Paul II Catholic School. We feel very fortunate to be given this opportunity to teach together at such an awesome school. Mrs. Brock teaches in the morning and Mrs. Wetzel teaches in the afternoon. Mrs. Brock teaches Language Arts, Phonics, Reading, and Handwriting.
Mrs. Wetzel teaches Math, Science, Social Studies, and Religion.
In our classroom we strive to meet every child’s needs. We have enriched our curriculum with many activities that go above and beyond the first grade standards. We have incorporated morning and afternoon centers, Super Spellers, Enrichment Packets, Class Store, Chromebooks, Science Experiments, STEM Activities, Journal and Diary Entries, and Class Mascot.
My name is Elizabeth Wetzel. I’m so excited to teach alongside Jill Brock in first grade! Previously, I was a second grade teacher in the Archdiocese of Louisville until my son was born. After nine years as a stay at home mom, I worked for several years at JPII’s Preschool, and then for Junior Achievement’s BizTown program. I was a First Grade Assistant and substitute teacher for the 21-22 school year. I felt a call to return to teaching for the 22-23 school year, and I’m so glad the opportunity arose at JPII.
Personally, I’ve been married for 23 years to Todd Wetzel, and we’ve been members of JPII since our older son Sean was a preschooler. We’re lectors at the 8:30 Mass. Sean graduated from Providence and is now a senior mechanical engineering student at the University of Louisville. Our younger son Matt graduated from JPII and is a senior at PHS. Sending our boys to JPII was one of the best decisions we’ve made.
I’m really looking forward to teaching math, science, social studies and religion to the rising first graders!
